The Gift of Knitting - Deep End.
As you know this month we celebrated our 3 year anniversary of our Mexican adventure. As much as I love living here, a part of my heart will always stay where my close family is. There is an ocean between us, but I feel like hand knit gifts are bringing us slightly closer together. I work on them while living my life here, putting my time, skills and love for this craft in each stitch. This summer I want to make three bundles. In each of them I will put a hand knit shawl, a printed picture of me wearing the shawl and a hand written letter for each of my dear women - my Mom and two Grannies. I know that for them there will be nothing more precious than touching the work that came out of my hands, looking at me wearing it and reading my letter. My dear Elena is helping me to bring this idea to life. The first gift of knitting, Deep End, was knit for my dear Mom. The biggest love and passion of my Mom is the sea. Since the very early age she has been dreaming about traveling. It was the time of the Soviet Union and only very few people could get the permission to travel abroad. When the Soviet Union collapsed, the tourism boom started - people were finally free to leave the country. My Mom started to work in a travel agency almost immediately and 10 years later her dream came true - she opened her own agency. The sea was always something very special to her and I know how happy she is that I live in this place right now. I know how much she will cherish these pictures...The dress that I am wearing was hand sewed by one lovely lady from the organic market. Simple, but so beautiful. We got completely carried away by this small photo shoot. Elena made me dance, jump, run, dive into yoga postures and throw the shawl. I almost lost it in the sea :) We even gathered a small crowd of spectators around us cheering us up. Mexico has its flaws but this friendliness and the general joy of life cannot be taken from it!As usual Elena created an amazing photostory that is vibrant, alive, full of passion and love for life, nature and creativity. I am hurrying up to have as many FOs as possible to continue our knitting photostory with her before we drift apart...
Off to knitting...
I hope you are having a wonderful week!
