Riviera Skirt. Wearing.
FO - Riviera Skirt by Wool and The Gang
Every single FO is a little celebration for me and for my dear friend, Elena. We are both busy with our own lives and full time jobs, but we always try to find time to get creative and shoot finished knits! Elena is often the one who hurries me up with my WIPs.When I finished my Riviera Skirt, I remembered one special place that I found one year ago while walking with my dog. Beautiful rocky hills 10 minutes drive from town. The only problem to get there is that you have to walk for 40-60 minutes. It's not a big deal when you are hiking with a dog, but when you head for a photoshoot it is a different story...And here we were in the middle of nowhere walking in the desert towards the rocky hills carrying a huge bag with photo equipment, knitted skirt, water and a pile of air balloons. I am sure we looked, at the very least, quite weird... So I don't blame a property guard who stopped us to ask a few questions and check my ID :) When he heard that we are from Russia, walking to the hills to shoot some pictures of a skirt for a knitting blog, he smiled, shook his head and gave my ID back :) Love Mexico - always friendly and understanding! The walk was worth all the time and effort. The view was magnificent! And the silence at this place is indescribable...
We surely had fun taking pictures of Riviera Skirt in this amazing place!
Compared to the rest of my wardrobe, Riviera Skirt is definitely out of my comfort zone - so colorful and playful. But hey, it's Spring Break! One of my favorite quotes by Rebecca: "Craft work can be seen as preserving time. Hand made items preserve time in the same way that fruit is preserved as jam, not as the unchanged strawberry or plum fresh plucked, but as something cooked and processed to preserve the taste of summer. Hand made items embody both the hours of making (time) and memories and feelings of people (the times) within the construction of the object…a true cultural artefact." (Rebecca, Needle & Spindle) This knitting experience will preserve in itself an excitement of trying something new, a delight of working with beautiful fiber, the memories of marine adventures and the happy hours spent with a dear friend... It will always stay in my heart! That's the beauty of handmade...
