Where to buy yarn in Paris and how I cried in Louvre

You know how some things seem so cliche that you forget that the reason they actually became cliche are because they are that good?

Leonardo da Vinci´s La Joconde, aka Mona Lisa. If you are not a professional art student, you probably heard that it is in Louvre, heard that is considered one of the greatest art pieces and even heard some people who saw it complain that ¨it is so small, what is the big deal¨ or ¨it is so far away from you in the museum, you can barely see anything¨. Mona Lisa, at least for me, was such a given ¨great art piece¨ that it became a cliche that never attracted much of my attention. Everything changed after I read Leonardo da Vinci´s biography by Walter Isaacson. This amazing book brought to light the significance of La Joconde for Leonardo and the power it emanated, that went well beyond technical mastery of the artist. And here I was - yearning for the opportunity to see her with my own eyes one day. It was almost 3 years ago. And in late summer of 2023 I made it happen. I went to Paris. I walked up the stairs of Louvre with my heart racing. And I cried, I cried in front of La Joconde.

I am sharing some cherished moments from this dream journey that touched so many strings in my mind and soul and that revived so many scenes from Victor Hugo´s novels that I devoured in the university. And as a bonus, quick yarn shopping video guide for you to refer to if you one day you find yourself on the streets of Paris.
