Modification Series. Soho Dress. Part III.
Joining knitting and reading Yarn Along.
Knitting. Not much knitting has been going on this week. I've been quiet busy with work and life in general. The house is turned upside down - we packed all our books, yarn, electronics and documents in plastic boxes before the hurricane. Fortunately, Blanca didn't hit us, just poured some heavy rain. Life goes on! The hurricane season has just started and they promise a lot of hurricanes - the water is too warm for this time of year. So I feel like it's better to leave everything in boxes.Though the knitting time was limited I managed to make some time for my Soho Dress. No matter what happens in life, knitting must go on. The life in the yarnless town taught me that it's better not to overestimate my yarn supplies. I've knitted front and back parts of the dress up to armholes to check if I have enough yarn left to finish both of them. It seems and feels like I do, but now I have an idea to play with the contrasting yarn in the neckline section. I haven't planned anything in particular, I will experiment as I knit. The decision to place the decreases 16 stitches from the edge is creating an interesting waist shaping. I'm intrigued to see it in a finished blocked piece. The side purl panels in hand dyed silk are coming along. I've divided a skein and making two panels at the same time, as each of them is just 12 stitches of width. The look really narrow right now, almost like a thick i-cord, but blocking the swatch showed me that the fabric will grow . I don't want to make them two wide.Reading. Travel books are my passion. Picked this one about Switzerland in a local library. Looking at snowy mountains is exactly what I need in 35C heat :)While I was documenting Soho Dress progress, somebody came to say hi.I am a knitter. I have a cat. I can't believe I still haven't introduced you to Petrushka!Petrushka (parsley in Russian) is our girl who found us a couple of years ago as a kitten. She was born from a feral cat and decided that we were the ones to take care of her - got into our house and never left it again :) We really didn't have any choice. I always thought of myself as a dog person. Well, Petrushka definitely changed it. I think even our dog is a cat person now. How was I even able to knit without her purring next to me?! She is quiet a character. Her relationship with yarn were established in the first months. She knows rule number one in the house - Never play with yarn. Did I mention she is a rule breaker?
I hope you will be able to make some time for crafting this week!
See you on Friday! Our World Crafter is taking us to Kiev. I'm so inspired by her work!
