Making Things - Netflix for Knitting
This summer I got an email from Megan with the offer to become one of the first designers to use an app that at that time was still a work in progress. We met in Skype, I was in Russia at that time and Megan is from Australia, it is pretty amazing how knitting brings people together from different parts of the world! We talked and she explained me the concept of this new way of working with your knitting patterns that to me seemed to be the future of knitting.Making Things App is basically a Netflix for knitting, for the monthly subscription of $11.99 (which is basically less than 2 pattern package), you get the unlimited access to 1000+ knitting patterns. Moreover, the app is designed that way that allows you to use very handy tools that are always with you - no need to carry around the pattern printed pages, pencils/markers and all those little things that help you to navigate through the pattern. Highlighters help you to keep track of your progress, editable notes allow you to leave your your comments right in the pattern, counters will be handy for keeping track of rows, stitches, increase, decreases, etc; working with charts is also simplified - highlighter will help you to keep track of where you are in the chart. You will be able to enjoy a live pattern support along with video tutorials for basic techniques used in the patterns. So, basically you won't have to look for extra information, but have everything in your app.At the moment I have three of my patterns as a part of an app, little by little I am going to add more into my library, so you can easily interact with each pattern inside the app. Rain, The Edge and Wings patterns are already available in the app's library.
I am excited to be a part of such an amazing project and I hope you will also find it useful!
