Milan fashion week presented a mix of traditional and experimental knitwear for the upcoming spring/summer season. My absolute favorite so far of all the collections I looked through is by Brunello Cucinelli. Such feminine, cozy, beautiful pieces I would immediately wrap myself into!The styling of this lookbook is so elegant. I love the idea of layering a light knit cardigan with a silky shirt on top, so chic!Layering trend is continued with the runway from Giada - combining knitwear and other textiles the designer created striking looks. I would definitely wear them to the office!

Fendi is layering knitwear with transparent skirts, shirts and swimwear.

Genny and Salvatore Ferragamo are combining knit tops with shorts, skirts and wide high-waisted pants.

Salvatore Ferragamo is offering to ditch a traditional business suit and just wear knit shorts with tops to create a "power look". I wouldn't risk it to wear it to the office, but definitely looks like a perfectly comfy outfit for the Netflix night.General knitwear color scheme was pretty subtle, but Peter Pilotto chose to use some bright prints for his pieces. I can see a lot of intarsia and fair isle work here.

Agnona featured a solid turquoise color classic cardigan. I absolutely love how they paired it with office pants!

Dresses. Eyelets, dropped stitches and lots of drape - all of it you will find in Anteprima knit dresses. Salvatore Ferragamo made stripe dresses and "forgot" to weave in ends, well that can be our knitters' excuse for postponing this part of the process, after all it looks like it's a "vogue trend" now :)Dolce & Gabbana created a collection that is taking us to the past - ultra feminine suits, dresses and skirts. I can spot a lot of dropped stitches techniques and irish crochet lace.Fashion weeks are always a great resource to find new unusual interpretation of knitwear. They are often exaggerated for the show purposes and not really wearable, but still interesting to investigate all the forms and shapes a piece of thread can turn into.

Out of box thinking could be spotted on the runways of No.21, Ermanno Scervino, Sportmax, Jil Sander and Genny.

No.21 and Ermanno Scervino used sparkle and unusual details (apparently not all sleeves are meant to be worn) in their creations.Sportmax intrigued me so much with this piece. I downloaded a high-res photo just to zoom in and see what they did there. Looks like it is a classic cable knit that they painted with some special technique that gives an additional 3D effect.Jil Sander and Genny were generous with the fringe using it as a decorative and exaggerated detail.
