Vogue Knitting. Review and Giveaway.

Vogue Knitting. Ultimate Knitting Book.

I got my first Vogue Knitting. The Ultimate Knitting Book. more than three years ago, it was a beautiful edition in golden tones and one of my first big knitting reference books. I loved it dearly until a huge hurricane hit the town and half of my library was sinking in water. When I was contacted with the offer to write the review for the brand new edition of this great book, I immediately said yes, because I knew it would be amazing and something that you will also like!

Vogue Knitting. Ultimate Knitting Book.

300+ pages of completely revised and updated information on all kinds of aspects of knitting – starting from supplies and introduction to basic stitches to designing your own projects. It is jam packed with information in a very easy and comprehensive format both in written and visual forms. And apart from its practical use, it is just a great coffee table book – absolutely in love with the new cover design and its sleek pages with beautiful photos and illustrations.

Vogue Knitting. Ultimate Knitting Book.

I love how universal Vogue Knitting is – both complete beginners and advanced knitters will find it useful. One of the new sections for more advanced crafters are the chapters on hat, glove, sock and shawl design and construction – 100+ pages on knitwear design! This section reveals the logic behind the design, breaks it down for you in a very easy to grasp visual form and walks you through the whole process. So, if you have been dreaming of putting your ideas into shape, but were lost where to start, you will find your answers here.

Vogue Knitting. Ultimate Knitting Book.

The book formatting is very user friendly – each section has its own specific color which makes it very easy to navigate. All the information is in the right place in the right time – photos, illustrations, step-by-step written instructions, schematics, charts – the editors used all the tools possible to present you each concept in the best way.

Vogue Knitting. Ultimate Knitting Book.

I really love this quote from Elizabeth Zimmerman at the end of the book… Yes, we, knitters, are very fortunate.

I’m a Northern California girl who came to live in Mexico. Learned to knit from a book – The Complete Encyclopedia Of Stitchery, and am still devoted to knitting. I’d love to see what’s new – and bone up on the omre traditional, as well.

A few years ago, I discovered the 1989 edition of Vogue Knitting in a coffee shop a few years ago. As soon as I got home, I was on Amazon chasing down a used copy. I had to have a copy of this fabulous knitting reference in my knitting library! Now there is this new addition. Even though I had vowed no new reference books, this new one from Vogue will be an exception. I look forward to seeing the chapters on design.
