Holiday Spirit Knits

Textured Sweater

Happy Monday! I hope you are having a great start of the new week. Among all this pre-holiday frenzy there are my knits which keep me grounded – it is always so nice to come back to my WIPs after a long day. For these days I always need something mindless and familiar, in beautiful fiber that I will enjoy holding in my hands throughout the whole project. If you remember, I gifted my original Wheat pullover to my dear friend – it was just perfect for her.

But then I remembered that I have this luxurious baby alpaca from Magliamania in my stash, a gift from a dear friend. I couldn’t resist – I cast it on! I wish you could feel it through the screen… And this forest green is just right for the holiday spirit, right?

And one more WIP, oh so close to finishing, is my La Flor in Take Care Mohair – I am just so curious to see how my patterns change with different fibers. This light, soft and airy yarn reminds me of snow that I haven’t seen in so many years… It brings memories of the snowflakes on my face and of the sight of my parent’s backyard where my dog is playing with the snow.

I am determined to finish it before the clocks strike 2018.

I hope you are having a magical December filled with dear to your heart people, good food and inspiring knits.

The Gang Knits

Textured sweater pattern. The Gift of Knitting

Happy Sunday! As this month is flying by, I wanted to share with you what is on my needles and (finally!) on my crochet hook (it’s been a long time since I started a crochet project!). My new old sweater project is the updated version of La Flor that I have been working on almost a year already, putting it aside when I wasn’t 100% happy about it. For some reason I always saw La Flor as the perfect sweater to experiment with fiber, and when Wool and the Gang sent me their new yarn – Take Care Mohair! – for the review, I knew that was it – the perfect match! It is easy to knit and the gauge can be adjusted to the new yarn weight. But with mohair it is a little bit different – it is definitely not the fiber that you can use for any stitch pattern, but for some reason I was sure that it would work with La Flor one way or another.

Just like I thought knitting the pattern as it is didn’t give me the effect I was looking for, so I decided to change some things and in a way simplify the pattern to make it more suitable for more types of yarn. After playing around with stitch placement, I finally found the fabric that I loved – and now new La Flor is growing on the needles pretty steadily. It is the softest and squishiest thing ever!!! I only hope you can feel it through the photos. Take Care Mohair by Wool and the Gang is extremely light, but because of the nature of the thread, it has some volume that allows you to knit it on pretty big needles – I am using 7 mm (which is around 10.5 US size). As soon as I finish the sweater, I will make sure to add these adjustments as the extra pattern material, so you can experiment and knit familiar La Flor, but in different fibers.

This summer my friends from Wool and the Gang sent me one more package to review one of their most popular yarn lines – Crazy Sexy Wool. Super bulky and extremely soft Peruvian wool. Out of 30+ shades, I chose the neutral Ivory White (I know, I am sooo predictable 🙂 ).

For being that thick – you get 2 sts per 1″ – the thread is light, because of the nature of its spun. This spun has its disadvantages though – I know that it will start pilling pretty soon, but I can live with that – I have my sweater brush to put my knits back in order 🙂

And great news is that these bulky yarn balls inspired my to pick up my crochet hook and I am extremely happy with my swatches – will show you more as soon it is going to take some more wearable shape!

Thank you, WATG, for making me a part of your fiber gang 🙂 We are also going to prepare some great giveaways for you soon, and that always makes me happy!

I hope you will have a wonderful day today with your loved ones!

Knitting Flow

We Are Knitters. Pima Cotton Sweater.

Happy Wednesday! Just a quick work-in-progress update. Between never ending to-do lists, day job and last preparations for Moeke 2017 collection release (so, so looking forward to it), I try to devote at least 30  min a day to a simple, mindless and so delicious to the touch pima cotton sweater that’s been growing slow, but steady on my needles.

I am not sure what will come of it, as I am basically changing everything on the go, including the stitch pattern; but sometimes it feels so nice not to know and not to plan what iit should become in the end. Just enjoying this quiet knitting flow is enough for now. After this quiet hectic summer, this is exactly what I need right now.

I hope you also have something soothing and mindless on the needles that helps you to switch off your head and catch this knitting zen flow 🙂

We Are Knitters – Pima Cotton

We Are Knitters Pima Cotton

Happy Sunday! Today I would love to share with you one more visual yarn story that I created for the review of Pima Cotton by We Are Knitters. I worked with pima cotton before and I can definitely say this is the best type of cotton for me – it is so incredibly soft, light and silky. I love its slight sheen that adds depth and luxurious feel to the fabric.

We Are Knitters Pima Cotton

The pima cotton is loosely spun and feels very light to the touch. It creates a wonderful crisp stitch definition that works perfect for basic stitch patterns. I am casting on for a simple light summer sweater – I haven’t made any notes, I will just keep knitting and see where it brings me. This is the best way for me to experiment on the needles!

From what I can see so far the yardage is very generous in the skein and I have a feeling I will have enough for more than one project! I’ll see what I will have left at the end and experiment on my knitting machine with it.

We Are Knitters Pima Cotton

For this review I chose Denim shade out of 25 available colors – basically slightly faded grey/blue.Great choice for those who wants to add more color into their knitting, but still stick to a neutral soft palette.

I’ll be knitting away and hopefully share the results of my experiment soon! Thank you, We Are Knitters, for creating such an inspiring yarn! At the end of this knitting story, I will organize a giveaway for you. You can subscribe to my blog to receive the latest giveaways announcements and never miss them!

Enjoy your Sunday!!! See you soon!

Sunday Treats

Knitting progress

Happy Sunday! I hope you are having a wonderful weekend!

To recharge before a long week I try to fill my day with simple rituals that make me feel like I am really using my time off for something that makes me and other people happy… I happen to love routine, making plans and to-do lists. The perfect weekend should include friends, music, sport, good food, reading, limited time in front of the computer, walking, mint tea with milk, calling my family, organizing the house and yarn in my hands…

Knitting progress

This weekend besides finishing some big projects, I am working on something very quick and mindless – a lovely baby hat for my friend’s nephew who is just a couple of month old! I’m using Baby’s Beanie Hat pattern from “Simple Knits For Cherished Babies” – a very basic and mindless knit that will make a perfect gift. The chainette Paloma yarn is perfect for it – the thread is thick, but very light and the softness of it is beyond words! Hope to finish it today! I would also love to mention that the book itself is so beautifully photographed – each page is inspiring!

Knitting progress

Another mindless and straightforward knit is the crop top with Stone Washed. I have just three skeins, so I think it will be really cropped 🙂 It’s also the first project that I am working on the straight needles – I actually miss it!

I hope you will have time today for some special rituals that make your weekends relaxing!

Have a wonderful day!

Stone Washed

Stone Washed Yarn

Happy Tuesday! I hope you are having a wonderful week! Today I would love to share with you one more visual story I created with beautiful skeins by Wool and the Gang. Their limited edition Stone Washed yarn, released in collaboration with Rowan, is a soft and light tape 100% cotton yarn in beautiful “washed” color that adds depth to the shades.

Stone Washed Yarn

The yarn thread is flat and wide, which makes it very fast to knit – I am using 6 mm needle; but because of the nature of the spun, it stays very light. This feature makes it perfect for light spring/summer garments that are very easy to knit. Simple basic stitches are the best choice for this kind of yarn – the texture is created by the thread itself.

Stone Washed Yarn

I promise myself to make a cropped summer top for the last three summers, but never get it done. But this yarn is so inspiring that it’d be a crime to keep it in the stash! Plus I know it will be a very fast knit that I’ll really enjoy!

Stone Washed Yarn

I hope you enjoyed one more chapter in my “yarn stories” and will cast on something light and summery!

Have a wonderful week!
