Wind of Changes

Alpaca Documentary

photo: Frisenvang yarns

Happy Wednesday! Today I have two projects to tell you about that touched my heart. Both of these projects are built on the faith and hope for the better world and finding place for all people in it.

Several weeks ago Marianne from Frisenvang yarns contacted me with the request to tell about her project she is planning to bring to life. Marianne is a part of a small company that is specializing in high quality sustainable alpaca yarn. I carefully read about what they do and what they aspire to do and I thought that their mission is amazing and something that you will be interested to find about too!

Frisenvang yarns are working with a group of local alpaca producers in the region Marcapata in the Peruvian Andes mountains. Instead of selling the raw wool to the companies, these alpaca breeders take part in every step of the yarn production process – carding, dying and handspinning. This way they are able to support themselves on much better terms.

Right now Frisenvang yarns managed to give a better life to 265 people that are able to support themselves with their craft and create a unique high quality product that supports not only people, but also environment with its eco-friendly production process. Marianne and her partners aspire to bring in more people into the cooperative by educating them each step of the yarn production process and providing as many job places as possible.

To make it happen it is important that more people find out about Frisenvang yarns project. Marianne and her partners are planning to make a documentary about the community, alpacas and life in the high Andes. The documentary is scheduled to go live in 2019 and the main goal is to give a raw and honest look at the lives of people and animals in this picturesque scenery. I personally think it is a wonderful project, as we know so little about the yarn production process at the very root of it and people who make it happen.

You can read more about the project and support it here – “Documentary – Unique sustainable yarn and a better world”

Veter Magazine

The second project I wanted to tell you about is one very special magazine that is being published in Russia. I have been following its founder and editor in chief, Vera Pochueva, for years now and when I booked my trip to Russia, I knew I wanted to visit Veter’s office. “Veter” means “wind” in Russian and as the cover says – Wind is a symbol of changes and power, bringing new ides, inspiration, freedom and passion.

Veter Magazine

The magazine tells about small businesses started by all kinds of people driven by inspiration and infinite love for what they do. Each story is inspiring and I love how it touches upon not only the creative side of each project, but also the practical one – how much money was invested, how sustainable the project is, how much time and effort it took to see the first results. It is a very raw conversation of how dreams are being brought to life, not always bright and shiny, but with everyday mundane tasks performed consistently, with diligence and faith in yourself and your work.

Veter supports a charitable fund that I also donate to, “Enjoyable Aging”, the fund provides nurses, supplies and takes care of the old half destroyed nursing homes where lonely old people live.

Veter Magazine

I hope you enjoyed reading about these projects that touched my heart. It is amazing how much we can do together and bring the wind of changes…

Have a wonderful day today!

St Petersburg. City’s Diary

Knitting Blog. The Gift Of Knitting.

My trip to the favorite city didn’t go exactly as planned, but these 3 short days were filled with dear friends, magical places and good food. This post is a collection of random moments caught here and there, each of them holding a beautiful memory about this place that will always stay in my heart.

I hope you will feel, through these simple phone photos shot on the go, the atmosphere of this unique city – magnificent buildings that make you stop and stare; cozy little cafes filled with smell of freshly baked bread and deserts and book stores hidden behind city’s doors; that distinct city’s voice made of traffic, announcements of the current exhibitions and excursions, street musicians and the mix of languages on the streets; the “texture” of the city made of colors, buildings, canals and people.

Gifts Of Life – Marina Walk

Knitting Blog

At sea I learned how little a person needs, not how much” – Robin Lee Graham

Knitting Blog

When I need to think and get out of my routine a little bit, I get into the car and drive to the nearest place where you can hear the sound of waves crushing and the air is filled with salty drops. It brings me back to myself, to life and lifts me up no matter what.

In this post I would like to share a special to my heart place – a marina, found a little bit outside of town. There is something soothing about walking in the sunset light, listening to seagulls, looking at boats and wondering where they have been and what they’ve seen. I bet each of them has a nice story to tell.

Please, join me for this little walk. I hope you will enjoy.

Birthday Gifts of Life

Knitting Blog

Happy Wednesday and Happy 2018! It feels so good to be back to this space – I haven’t been exactly away, just a little bit behind the scenes – I’ve been knitting non-stop these days and also working on some website updates that you will hopefully see soon!

Today I am celebrating my birthday just the way I love – waking up at dawn, working, calling my dear ones to say “I love you” and “Thank you for everything” and slowing down today, just a little bit to feel grateful for one more year in my life – I do not take it for granted!!

Also I want to share with you some special for me images from my lonely December walk, when the wind was blowing, the sky was gray, but the ocean was so beautiful that it took your breath away – this is truly my happy place…

Gifts Of Life. At Dawn

Knitting Blog

I love routine. Love waking up at the same time every morning while it is still dark, lit up a candle, stretch, knit, go to work… Love this familiar rhythm of days filled with simple little things that warm your heart. But sometimes there is nothing better than to wake up on your day off and decide to chase a sun. Jump in the car, turn on your favorite music and climb in the darkness up the hills to meet a new day, be in awe with nature and infinitely grateful…
