Mineral Heather Sweater

Happy Sunday!

After living in an eternal summer for more than 3 years, I became quiet indifferent to my wardrobe in terms of warm clothes. Of course, I had to wear sweaters in Baja in the mornings and evenings during winter months, but I was never freezing in the house during morning hours. Here it is completely different. If it is a sunny day, it feels like summer, but as soon as the last rays of sunshine disappear behind the horizon, the temperatures drop drastically. And I realized that I don't really have the basic warm clothes to put on. As soon as I started knitting 6 years ago, I stopped buying sweaters from the store, it lost all the appeal to me. So, buying warm clothes is just not an option now. A foggy chilly Saturday morning got me back to reality  - it was freezing and I had to fight for a Flax sweater that I made for my husband :) It is the warmest piece of clothes in the house. I am in a desperate need of a warm basic sweater! And I finally remembered about my knitting machine. These months were quiet hectic and I didn't have a chance to unpack the machine, dust it and play with some yarn on it. It was sitting in the corner for several months now, lonely and abandoned. It was a perfect timing to get to it again! And as soon as I installed it, I realized how much I missed it! Threading yarn, adjusting yarn tension and stitch dial, knitting a few rows... How could I live without it for so long?!!I was so excited about coming back to it that the idea of the new project, yarn, swatch and numbers were ready yesterday! It almost never happens to me, usually I plan my projects for a week! So, a new sweater is on the way - warm, basic and woolly!7-11-15-machine-knitting-sweater-3I am using Wool of the Andes by Knit Picks, the same yarn that I knit the Flax with. This colorway is so beautiful! It's hard to show on pictures, but it has speckles of red and purple in it. And I loved the name of the color so much - Mineral Heather - that I decided to stay with it for the name of the project. Mineral Heather sweater will be my third project for My Fall KAL. This color and wool seem to be perfect for a fall project!7-11-15-machine-knitting-sweater-1I have a very basic knitting machine and it can't do the ribbing. So, I always start with casting on and knitting the ribbing by hand before placing the project on the machine's bed. The hardest thing for me is to match the needle size and the stitch dial of the machine.

Well, the numbers for shaping are almost done, yarn is ready and I am excited to start!

I'll will keep you posted on the progress, of course!

The project is Raveled here - Mineral Heather.

Enjoy your Sunday!
