After hours of mattress stitch seaming, Mineral Heather is an official FO!

Project Notes

Ravelry page. Mineral HeatherPattern. Mine. It's difficult to call it a pattern, it's more like hectic scribbles on pieces of paper.Knitting machine. The sweater was knit on Silver Reed LK150 knitting machine, stitch dial – 6.5. If you are wondering how the knitting machine works, you can check my overview here - How To Make a Sweater on a Knitting Machine. Part I, Part II.Yarn. After finishing Flax in Wool of the Andes by Knit Picks in black, I decided to use this yarn line again in a sweater for myself. The yarn looks very durable, it's incredibly warm and very affordable. Plus the color is so rich and goes perfect with casual jeans. At first yarn felt very "rustic", but after a bath with hair conditioner, it bloomed!Fit. I chose a classic modified-drop shoulder silhouette with a slight waist shaping. It's easy to plan and wear.wool sweaterHem. I really wanted to make a narrow ribbing for a slight "pulled in" look. I did the ribbing by hand before putting it on the machine and at first it seemed so small, I was afraid I miscalculated it. But after blocking it "jumped" into the "just the right" width.wool sweaterNeckline. Before picking up stitches as usual, I made a chain using slip stitches with the crochet hook along the neckline. Only then I picked up stitch by stitch from the center of the each slip stitch. You can see how it formed a nice chain between the main body and the neckband. I love this technique! It's so good for hiding all the imperfections! Neckband is a classic 1*1 rib, echoing the hem and sleeve cuffs.wool sweaterSleeves. I love long cozy sleeves with rolled up cuffs. After finishing the sleeves, I realized I knitted 7 extra rows, but it didn't make a drastic difference on the length.wool sweaterThe cuffs are double rolled. My ribbing part was approximately 15-16 cm (6-6 1/4"). I was knitting cuffs by hand, two at the same time (you can see it in action here). I really enjoy using two-at-once method, because when you are done, you are DONE. The cuffs look awfully narrow, but the ribbing is very stretchy and allows a comfortable fit.wool sweaterI am really happy with the result and I know I will wear the sweater a lot - the color and fit are so perfectly casual! It's been a long time since my last machine knitting FO - what was I thinking?!! I already have some plans for the future projects - once I start, I can't stop :)wool sweater
