Ivy Textured Cable Sweater Knitting Pattern

Today I am sharing the last “photo album” that I created for Vintage collection. Ivy with its turtleneck, cables and folded cuffs is my interpretation of a perfect cozy warm sweater that is engaging to knit and easy to wear. Ivy is knit using Elena yarn, holding two threads together. When I offered this option to Ioana, she loved the idea – hopefully this project will show how versatile ElenaΒ is.

Obviously holding two threads together significantly speeds up the process, plus it creates very warm sweater that will protect you from any harsh winds. Being a very sturdy yarn, Elena is perfect for cables – it creates a great stitch definition with very nicely defined texture, but it is also “lofty” enough for keeping the shape without stretching. One great thing is that I don’t notice any pilling on my Journey and The Choice sweaters, though they are more than one year old and have been worn quiet a lot.

I love how this sweater is made of little details – cozy turtleneck, simple cable panel, compound raglan that follows your shoulder line, folded cuffs, side slits, slip stitch faux side seam…

One of my favorite details is how the cables are “flowing” into 2×2 ribbing.Β This little design touch makes such a huge difference to me and makes the sweater “complete” in some way.

That is so beautiful! Stunning actually. I’m just now learning how to do cables and I see this sweater in my future. Maybe not my IMMEDIATE future . . . but one day.
I love your work and your posts.

    • Thank you so much for your kind words about my work, Barbara! I am really happy you enjoy my little knitting journal that I love so much! Cables do look complicated at first, but once you start you realize that it is not that scary after all πŸ™‚

  2. Another stunning cable sweater. I am totally torn between all the beautiful sweaters you’ve designed recently and my own sweater grows so slowly but soonish, I will start one of them for sure πŸ˜‰

  3. This is fantastic! I like its neutral color and soft, cozy texture, this is a perfect winter garment. You are becoming a master in designing!

  4. You make cables actually look desirable. Cables should be sending you a Thank You note. Remarkable!

  5. So beautiful and cozy, I love the cables and all the wonderful details! The split hem is fantastic, too. I also love it when holding two strands together, it definitely yields a different type of knit fabric than when using a single strand of heavier gauge yarn.

  6. beautiful sweater and I love the various photos πŸ™‚
