Craft Goals

Craft Goals

Happy 2017, friends! I hope you had a wonderful holiday season and had some time to relax. Honestly I barely felt the holiday spirit this year – was way too busy with too many things. But I am definitely not complaining, I love everything that I do and every day I feel grateful for the opportunity to work – it is my best form of meditation.

As you might have noticed The Gift Of Knitting looks slightly different now. I hope you like it and find it easier to navigate, there are still some changes I want to make. I am working on it!

This past weekend I looked back at the goals that I set for myself last year, including the craft goals that I shared with you in December 2015:

[unordered_list style=”tick”]

  • Improve my machine knitting skills
  • Crochet more
  • Take careful notes of my projects

I definitely feel much more confident with my LK-150, though I didn’t finish as many projects as I planned. One thing I know for sure is that the best and maybe the only way to get better at anything is to practice. Theory is great, but until you put it into use, you won’t see major changes.

Crochet… Absolute fail!!! I was working on a couple of crochet projects, but they were both frogged. But the good thing is that both of the unfinished pieces gave me a new idea for something fun to try, hopefully it will work out.

The last goal was definitely achieved – yay! I learned how to discipline myself in knitting and keep track of my experiments. Doesn’t sound like too much fun, as just knitting away without breaking my head how to put it into words in the clearest way possible is way more time and effort consuming, but it pays off when I receive “Thank you” notes from you!

And that leads me to my main craft goal for 2017 – sharing as much as I can here! I am really short of time these days, but I have numerous plans and ideas that hopefully will come to life during next 12 months. I really want you to find here inspiration to create, because it makes life so much brighter!

Here is to inspiring 2017!

Do you have any craft goals for new year?

Happy 2017, Alina! Your newly designed page is just lovely! I need to find time to explore it more fully for sure. I didn’t make any goals this year because I always seem to fail at keeping any I make…but internally I’ve told myself I will keep my birding list updated all year long for once. Cheers to a brilliant beginning!

Thank you so much, Ruby! Happy New Year to you too! I am glad you like the new look. Sometimes the best goal is not to set any goals for awhile!

How exciting! I love the new look of your website. My craft goals this year are learning how to sew, pushing myself to do more in knitwear design, and learning new skills in knitting (mainly shawl knitting and brioche). Happy 2017!

Thank you, Susanne! Oh, I really wanted to learn how to sew a couple of years ago and even bought a sewing machine, but for some reason it just didn’t grow on me, at all. I hope you will be much more successful in it 🙂 Happy crafting in 2017!

Yes, I do have some crafting goals but they are very basic in – DO CRAFTING! Last year I stopped knitting early in the year, I only finished a couple projects, and could never seem to make the time to knit…or I would find the time, and then somehow the 2 year old would find my knitting and undo it to the point I would have to start again.

Thank you so much for sharing, Heather! Yes, sometimes it is so hard to find time, even for a few stitches! I guess setting small and doable goals like 15-20 minute a day of me-time helps to keep this kind of promises to ourselves.

Happy New year!! You accomplished SO much in 2016, and with a regular blog to update too! Knitting your Journey sweater is going to be one of my 2017 knitting goals. 😉

Happy new Year, dear Julie! Oh, so looking forward to your version!

I hope you meet your new goals, it’s hard when life is busy! I know if you want to conquer crochet you will. You are quite the talented crafty person 🙂

Thank you, Karen! I love crochet so much and have been into in since 9 years old. I’ve made some dresses, throws, tops, but the last couple of years I neglected it completely, really hoping to get back to it in new year!

Happy New Year my dear girl!
I really like the new layout here 😉
I have decided not to set goals for 2017. I will just enjoy the ride this year but I’m continuing my last year’s goal of knitting every day, even if it is just one stitch.

Happy New Year, dear Zeta! I am glad you like it! Wishing you many happy days this year in your new house and with your lovely family!

I know there will be more amazing delights from you this coming year, Alina – that pic at the top tells it all with the different types and colours of yarn laid out there! The new website looks very clear and attractive – worth the effort you’ve obviously put into it. May 2017 be a wonderful knitterly year for you!

I love the new look for the site and I wish you the absolute best for 2017! <3
I have lots of craft goals but the main thing for me this year is to be consistent with my crafting and blogging. I let so many things slide last year that I shouldn't have but I'm ready to start again.

    • Alina January 8, 2017 at 9:22 am - Reply

Thank you, dear Nicky! I am so happy to hear you’ll get to blogging again – I miss it!!!

I think I failed all my craft goals for 2016! Top Down sweater never happened lol… I didn’t dye more or stray from Alice Starmore at all. Oh well, I guess I’ll renew those for 2017? I loved all my 2016 projects though, so no regrets!

I would like to get blogging again. My computer broke and it sucks blogging from a phone. It’s also a ton of work! Thanks Alina for dedicating so much time to the blog, I ready appreciate reading your posts.

Thank you so much, Sarah! I am glad you like visiting my little space! I can only imagine how much work it is to keep blogging from teh phone!! Really hope you get your computer fixed as soon as possible! Happy crafting in new year!!!

Based on the view from outside, it looks like you really rocked the 2016 goals! I hope 2017 continues the trend of awesome! Happy New Year!

Thank you so much, Renee! Happy New Year! 2016 was pretty challenging, but so many good things happened as well!

Happy 2017! I love the new changes to the website. It’s very streamlined and easy to use. It also highlights your beautiful photos wonderfully. My main crafting goals for the new year is to continue to learn new knitting techniques and to start & finish a wearable crochet project. Also hoping to journal more.

I am happy you like the new look, Tien! Wearable crochet project is also on my must-have list! Happy 2017 🙂

Happy 2017! I like the changes 🙂 One of my goals this year is to learn how to machine knit. My machine has been sadly neglected since I bought it a whole year ago! The other is to put crafting time into my week, it’s so relaxing.

    • Alina January 10, 2017 at 7:53 pm - Reply

Thank you so much, Charlotte! Oh, so great to hear that you want to give machine knitting a try. It does take time to learn, but it is so worth it! I hope to make more tutorials for machine knitting this year and share them with you here! You are right – even 20 minutes of crafting brings so much more joy into life!

I think it’s all about realistic goals and tailoring them to your desires…It’s hard to find that balance…I have put sewing on my list for 3 years in a row….needless to say, I still have not learned anything related to that. You have however accomplished quite a bit from your list! The new Blog look is lovely, it always feels great to refresh things, no?

    • Alina January 12, 2017 at 8:33 am - Reply

Thank you, Monica! I am glad you like the new layout, it definitely feels amazing to update things once in awhile. And you are so right about realistic goals – I took a lot on myself in 2016, especially at the end of the year, I have to learn to be more realistic about how many hours there are in day 🙂
