Friday Inspiration. Red Valentino Knit Dress.

This dress from Spring 2014 collection by RED Valentino is just precious.

RED Valentino Spring 2014

I love everything about it: the silhouette, the neutral color, the stitch pattern. These lovely cables are so tempting to knit. And the wheat ear cables… A knitter’s dream. I love how they are gently tied together with a knitted I-cord.

If you ever fancy to make this dress, here is the link to the YouTube tutorial How To Knit The Wheat Ear Cable Stitch.

Friday Inspiration. Knitting in Interior Design.

Someday I want to have a house that will be full of wooden furniture, textiles and baskets with yarn balls everywhere.

Perfect yarn baskets!

Jacqueline Fink from Little Dandelion is creating breathtaking interior pieces that bring the knitted stitch on a large scale.

I always loved volume knitting which is so rich in texture. I really want to try it someday.

The process certainly doesn’t look as relaxing knitting time. You can look up videos of the process here. But the result is oh so worth it!

At the moment Jacqueline is working on a collection of her yarn and needles, so more knitters can try this macroknitting technique.

You can look up more of Jacqueline Fink’s work on her website.

In recent years Daniela started to use knitting and crochet in her art installations. She sees it as “a simple form of handmade fiction”.

Daniela’s work “analyzes certain aspects that define our human nature, particularly the artificial world we inhabit and the nonsense that it generates.”

Very dramatic.

The dress is absolutely gorgeous.  I just wonder how heavy it is…  You really need to love knitwear to put on the equivalent of all the stash that you have in your house on your very special day. Would you dare?!

Jemma lives and works in London, but travels extensively with her lectures on knitwear design. She uses both hand knitting and machine knitting techniques in her collections.  “Her diverse portfolio is fueled by the possibilities of the knitted stitch and aims to challenge the preconceived ideas of the craft to hopefully inspire.”

Friday Inspiration. Cables.

The weekend is here. I am still in search for a pattern to cast on. So many temptations out there.

I am so fascinated and inspired by this hand knit sweater from last year’s collection by Nellie Partow. I love everything about it – garter stitch background, shaping and, of course, a cable panel, which is so structural, almost architectural.

This hand knit dress features the diamond cable pattern. I love how textured it is.

Nellie Partow used to work with such brands as Calvin Klein and Donna Karan before starting her own fashion line. Nellie describes her style as “refined minimalism”. She plays around with basic silhouettes, but always adds her own personal touch to old classics. Nellie is not only a fashion designer, but also a professional boxer. Wow!

Friday Inspiration. Volume Knitting.

How about this skirt for the Halloween costume?

Sandra Backlund, a Swedish knitwear designer, creates one-of-a-kind pieces that shock and inspire at the same time. Sandra uses both machine and hand-knitting in her work.

Edgy. Provocative. Exaggerated.

Her signature style in knitting is the structure and volume. Though she uses basic techniques, her vision of knitting is far from conventional.

I love these huge bobbles.

In one of her interviews Sandra said that the perfect piece of knitwear for her is all kinds of knitwear dresses. Being obsessed with dresses myself, I fell in love with her masterpieces.

The big question is how and where do you wear them? I would need a good prep talk to put on one of these designs.

Maybe this one. The skirt is gorgeous and actually wearable.

Look up more of Sandra’s designs on her website. There are no patterns for sale, but there is definitely no lack of inspiration for a knitter.
