The New Knitting Season
It's been awhile since I felt the seasons shift. 3 years in Baja felt like one long endless summer, but here you can already feel that autumn is just around the corner. Though days are still sunny and warm, evenings are spent wrapped into a blanket in front of the open fire, drinking hot tea with honey. Cotton is put away for awhile and wool is taken out. This Sunday morning I enjoyed some knitting time outside with fresh peaches from the local organic market. You really forget how the real staff tastes when you are used to buying your produce from the supermarkets! These peaches are something incredible!
I am finally casting on for a sweater for my husband. I am loving this wool so much and I am always cold, so there is a big chance that I will borrow the sweater from him quiet often :) It's 100% Peruvian wool by Knit Picks in Bittersweet Heather shade. I like the feel of it in my hands.
The pattern was recommended to me by Pat (thank you so much!) when I mentioned that I was looking for a simple men's sweater. At first I wanted to knit the sweater on a machine, as my husband is not very fond of complicated stitch patterns and he wants it as simple as possible. But Flax by Tin Can Knits made me change my mind. I've never tried the top-down construction and thought that it could be a great opportunity to pick up some new skills along the way. Especially with this helpful step-by-step tutorial that accompanies the pattern. I know that I never match my gauge with recommended needle size, so I was experimenting all morning until I got the fabric that I like.
The swatch is ready, and I am excited to open a new knitting season!
