Gratitude

It’s Thanksgiving day! A day of gratitude. Ability to be grateful is the ability to be happy...

Once I came across an exercise of happiness: start every single day with writing down 3 new things that you are grateful for in your life. If you do it consistently, you’ll soon run out of all the big things and you start to recognize these simple little things that are usually taken for granted. We have a very sweet gratitude activity in our Montessori classroom. Children learn to appreciate their hands. We use our hands every single day, mechanically, automatically, without being aware how precious they are. “The development of the hand goes side by side with the development of the intelligence………The hand is the organ of that immense treasure given to a man.” (Maria Montessori, Absorbent Mind).During this activity children draw the outline of their hands and write things that they are able to perform thanks to their hands. Try to do it – you’ll find countless small and big things that you are grateful for.

I’ve "drawn" mine with yarn.
