2018, Thank You!

This photo that I took on one of the gloomy days is the perfect presentation of my year – dark and beautiful at the same time with the darkness bordering with light. 2018 was the year when my life has changed drastically, I really feel like I am learning to live all over again. This was a year of great losses that were hard to live through but that helped me to become stronger and discover myself better. I lost dear to me people, both physically and emotionally, I lost the sense of a place for me in this world. But no matter what I am deeply grateful to 2018 for how kind and generous it was to me, for all the beauty I was lucky to see, for all the amazing people by my side, for the ability to work, for my health and strength, for this place here and for knitting, of course, that helped me to stay grounded through many things.

I have designed, knit and published some very special to me pieces:

La Flor sweater is the additional pattern to the original design that took a completely different shape in airy mohair.

The Edge sweater became one of my favorite pieces with 3D volume cables and rich texture.

I mixed Wheat and Heritage sweaters in one project knit in beautiful alpaca yarn in perfect green shade.

Wings sweater is a simple with a twist (literally!) project – the twisted ribbing creates the wings effect on your shoulders!

The interpretation of The Edge in lighter yarn in neutral color – was my perfect travel companion!

Polar Bear – one of the favorites of all time! Combining chunky wool with the light mohair was such a delicious tactile experience!

Amber Sweater – my newest pattern that features dramatic travelling cables against a rich textured background.

Alina Cardigan for YOTH yarns was finally published this year and I couldn’t be happier with it!

I wanted to thank you for this year of support, for being here and for always being my biggest inspiration behind this project!

Sending lots of love to you and your families! Happy New Year! 2019 is going to be magical!

Moeke Love

Moeke Yarns. the Gift Of Knitting.

Happy Sunday, friends! Hope you are enjoying the holiday frenzy! A quick update from me 🙂 While I am working non-stop-no-days-off at my day job, trying to get everything done by the end of the year, there is one project that I am so enjoying working at when I crush at my couch at the end of the day 🙂 Ioana from Moeke Yarns were kind enough to offer me a very interesting design challenge to show off Elena yarn at its best. After working with Moeke on so quiet a few projects, I seem to “know” the yarn well enough to get the best of it, hopefully, in the wearable form.

I missed its rustic feel, natural smell and muted undyed natural shade. The sweater is growing steadily and I am trying an unusual construction that will be both wearable and fun to knit. Looking forward to showing you more in 2019!

In Fog

Textured Cardigan Knitting Pattern. The Gift Of Knitting.

Happy Wednesday! Have you already been taken over by the holiday frenzy? I still haven’t done my proper Christmas planning, but some lights, candles and chocolate are definitely on my list. It is almost two weeks to Christmas, but I am so looking forward to it! I have just one day off at work, but I decided to make the best of it! Walk in the morning, get my matcha latte in a favorite cafe, read, knit and have dinner with friends.

I have so much knitting going on behind the scenes, I haven’t been sharing much of it as often I have to choose between taking photos and knitting; and as much as I love creating my mini yarn photostories, I have been craving for just knitting at this point.

I am looking forward to sharing some beautiful projects and collaborations with wonderful women in the year to come!

Amber. Textured Sweater Pattern.

Textured Cable Sweater Knitting Pattern. The Gift Of Knitting.

Amber sweater pattern is live on Ravelry! Thank you so much for your patience, I’ve been back and forth editing the pattern file, changing things, just to make sure that you will have everything you need to knit this sweater worry free.

Amber is knit on 6 mm (US 10) needle, so by the time you are done with the second cable repeat, you will be binding off the sweater body. It makes the whole process more engaging and keeps things fresh.

Because of the nature of the cable, it looks different depending on the angle – whether it is a diamond shape formed on each side, or an hourglass on the front, or simple cable twists on the shoulder. That is my favorite detail of this sweater.

The fabric created by Daughter is soft, holds the shape greatly and has a nice flow to it so even a heavily textured sweater won’t look bulky.

General Pattern Information

CONSTRUCTION

Amber sweater is knit bottom up in the round to the underarm, then divided for front and back to be worked flat. The modified drop sleeves are picked up and the cap is created with the help of short rows, eliminating all extra fabric for a better fit. The sleeves are knit in the round top down which allows to modify their length.

DESIGN DETAILS

Texture

Traveling voluminous cables are knit against a simple knit/purl textured background. The cable looks different depending on the angle – whether it is a diamond shape formed on each side, or an hourglass on the front, or simple cable twists on the shoulder. Rich in texture body creates a contrast with plain stockinette stitch sleeves.

Sleeves

Sleeves are knit in the round top down, starting with a cap shaped with simple short rows. The length is adjustable.

Neckline

A classic neckline is trimmed with 1×1 ribbing.

Sizing

The sweater is graded for 8 sizes with approximately 8″ of ease. The sample is shown in size Small with 8″ of ease.
