Today I can finally share with you a very special project that I have been working on for a very long time. One year ago I opened my emails and… couldn’t believe my eyes – I was offered to write a book for beginners, introducing them to knitting textures. The idea of the book was to show to a novice that knitting is basically made of two simple stitches – knit and purl – and mastering these two stitches will open a realm of new combinations and textures. As soon as I read about the concept of the book, I knew I could do it – this was exactly how I started my knitting journey and the idea of basically endless possibilities created by just two simple stitches was the reason of my immediate fascination with knitting as a craft. And, after one year of work of so many wonderful people, this project has come to life!!!

I am trilled to present you Add One Stitch Knitting, a book for beginners, filled with simple, but eye catching knit textures and beautiful projects you can use to practice your skills!

I was at work when the courier brought me the first copies, I opened the package and cried… I couldn’t believe that it is finally here! It was such an emotional moment for me! I cannot express how grateful I feel for the opportunity to share something that I love with all my heart in such a beautiful way.

I knew I wanted to present the book to you in a special and meaningful to me way. So, I took my family on a morning hike, up my favorite mountain, wearing my beloved Heritage sweater that was protecting me from cool morning wind… I hope these photos filled with early morning sunshine, stunning views, majestic nature and my messy hair will be able to transmit how happy I am to be able to share this project with you here!

As you can see, there are two editions for the book – US and UK, as the knitting terminology is a little bit different in two countries.

One of my favorite details about this book is the color palette. When we started working with my editor, Charlotte Frost, I told her that I see the book in subtle, soft neutral colors. This is more “me” and this is how I “see” knitting. I am really happy that the publishers agreed and I had the chance to bring my vision to life. I was also pleased to see that my Instagram photo inspired the design of the cover – I think it makes it so much more personal!

Add One Stitch Knitting consists of 15 Lessons, each of them includes the detailed instructions how to knit a stitch and a simple and stylish project for your home or wardrobe to practice your new skills. The patterns were designed for the beginners, but even if you are an experienced knitter, I am sure you will enjoy making these projects! One of my favorite patterns from the book is Hurdle Rib stitch bed throw made in chunky Peruvian wool. It is a great project to work on during cool winter nights – the blanket is so warm and it is quiet addicting to see this texture growing out of your needles!

I will tell more about the book in a more structured way next week, this post is too emotional and is getting too big already 🙂 But before I finish I would like to copy here my Acknowledgements section that is very special to me:

I would like to express my gratitude to a wonderful knitting community for their constant support and encouragement. Thank you for knitting my designs, your beautiful letters and kind comments. This book would never have happened without you!

I would like to thank my editor Charlotte Frost for guiding me through the whole process, offering comments, expertise and encouragement.

Last but not least I would love to thank my husband for believing in me.

Oh, Alina! This is simply too wonderful! Congratulations! Well done and all of the praise you will y receive will be compketely well deserved! I come to visit this space for inspiration and your excitement about all things knitting. I would love to win a US copy of your book, of course, but I also can’t wait to help promote it! What a great idea to add one stitch and learn about texture. . . It’s how it all begins! Congratulations, again!!

    Oh Alina,
Not only are you emotional about this book, I am as well. I’ve only followed you for a few months as I am a new knitter myself. What brought me to you was the fact that you had lived in San Miguel de Allende and I’m planning to move there in about 18 months. So I contacted you to establish a relationship before I arrive. Alas, you have moved on (and good for you!) and I won’t meet you in San Miguel. But what keeps me with you are your wonderful, heartfelt posts, your gorgeous photos, your lovely smile and your absolutely spectacular knits! I so love that you honor your family and heritage in nearly every post. You are so beautiful inside and out–that’s what keeps me with you. I often feel like I’m sitting with you enjoying a cup of coffee and talking knitting. I still hope our paths will cross sometime in person, but until then, I will gladly share your life and dreams and work thru your posts. Congratulations on this newest achievement. If I don’t win your book (Barron’s edition please) you can be sure I will purchase a few copies for myself and some of my favorite knitting friends. And could you share where you are living at this time? The countryside is spectacular. Love to you and your family.

What an exciting journey for you! I am a new knitter and love all things neutral. I cannot wait to go to my knitting class next week and share your information. I am from the Midwest US. Congratulations!

I opened the post, scrolled to the big picture of the book cover and thought – oh, this knitting is so much you, your favorite textures and colors, you must love this book – and then I read the name of the author – it was YOU! Congratulations, this is such an enormous achievement and so well deserved recognition of your talent as a designer and enthusiastic knitter!

Your pictures are beautiful!! What a great place to hike to- in pretty sandles! I love the textures you’ve created and the way you share your knowledge with the world. Your book would not only make a beautiful addition to my shelves and knitting chair pile, but I can think of a new knitter in my life who would adore having this book, to help her along her knitting journey. I am a US knitter; that’s my knitting language.

Hi Alina! Congratulations on your beautiful book! The cover draws you in, and I’m sure (whether I am lucky enough to see an advanced (US) copy -fingers crossed- or purchase it when it releases in a few months) that the contents will be equally pleasing.

I stumbled on your blog & IG a few months back and your natural encouraging voice along with subtle graceful design esthetic keep me coming back for more.

Congratulations! This looks like a book that will also inspire the non-beginner knitters through photos and words. If the pictures of you on the mountainside with your new book are any indication, it would be a lovely book to have on my knitting room coffee table. (US)

Congratulations to a very beautiful book! Even though I am an experienced knitter I seem to appreciate simple designs and designs for beginners – I am a “less-is-more” kind of person. I am in Sweden so my choice would be the UK version.

Hello from Finland! I would love to join your giveaway and if lady luck would be nice, I would love to have the UK version of the book. I found you on Instagram, with your wonderful picture of Simple Lines and the story of it. On my knitting queue. And fell totally for your design, when you realesed your Heritage sweater, but I am so beginner with knitting, so I am not sure I could be able to knit it. I sure would need your knitbook 😉

Do I need to say why I visit this place?? Because of you! I admire you as a person, as a knitter, as a designer, as a person who lives far from home. I love your esthetic, your reviews and interviews, your photography. I’m a little bumped that you can’t post as often as you used to but I totally understand. You are a true friend to me even though we have never meet. About that, we didn’t have a honeymoon but we are saving for a trip to Mexico!!!!!

Congrats, Alina. I am so looking forward to your book. I would love a book with interesting knit/purl designs; just from your cover photo the patterns look wonderful. If picked I’d love a U S version. Again, congrats.

Congratulations! I’m a new knitter. I’ve already made notes on hurdle rib for a blanket. And want to try your heritage sweater though I’ve not attempted a sweater yet… the book looks perfect for growing this addiction.

Oh Alina … I’m not surprised at this at all and so very happy for you!! Congratulations lady, you absolutely worked hard and deserve this! <3
I come to this blog time and time again because (1) I love your can-do attitude towards knitting and life, (2) your beautiful pictures, (3) your well thought out tutorials and last but not least because you have been an amazing online support for the past couple of years. Continued success to you, I can't wait for book #2.

Your book looks so beautiful! I saw the hurdle rib blanket in your IG stories and I love that stitch! So simple, but wir amazing impact! I’m not a very experienced knitter yet and like you I’m really fascinated by the possibilities you have with just two stitches :). I first came across your IG profile because of your Heritage sweater that you made using Moeke yarns when I’m right? I’d prefer the UK version of your book. Love from the Netherlands, Judith
